You might recognise the work above as that of Maricor and Maricar, the nimble-fingered designers who featured in issue 47. The sisters have created intricate art for Splendour in the Grass, Architecture in Helsinki and Death Cab For Cutie but now they’ve swapped pen for needle and thread “to create a mixtape of hand-crafted type based on lyrics borrowed from bands featuring Blondie, Paul Simon and Pavement.” Turns of Speech and Figures of Phrase is an exhibition inspired by mixed up and misheard lyrics. A must for anyone who’s into music, typography or grew up singing “Hold me closer Tony Danza”.
Turns of Speech and Figures of Phrase opens Thursday 3rd March 5:30-8:30pm and runs from 4-19 MARCH. For more info please visit Mart Gallery’s tumblr.
