Bjork Video for ‘Hollow’

This is a video of what the inside of your brain looks like when you listen to Bjork. Not really, but it could be. Here are some other things we thought it could be when we first saw the clip: the inside of the human body as seen from a tiny spacecraft; inside that thing they found that’s smaller than an atom as seen through a microscope; or somewhere in the deepest recesses of the ocean.

The real answer is actually the inside of a DNA trunk, so we almost got it! Bjork teamed up with biomedical animator Drew Berry to create a clip that represents the ancestral spirit. Bjork says that the video came from “the feeling when you start thinking about your ancestors and DNA that the grounds open below you and you can feel your mother and her mother, and her mother, and her mother, and her mother 30,000 years back.” The movement of the cells throughout the song represents Bjork’s genes as they flow from one generation to another before they manifest as “a large molecular complex” made from a scan of Bjork’s head.

The video for ‘Hollow’ is typically Bjork, in that it is not typical of anything at all.
