Jacqueline Kari Bos will transport you from a mountain top to the library and back again, all from the comfort of her fairy floss pink desk. Working with every conceivable combination of collage, pen and dip ink, gouache, marker, pencil and watercolour she creates beautiful, surreal illustrations which seamlessly blend the fantastic with the everyday. An illustrator for the last four years and an avid drawer since forever, she is also an exhibiting artist and printmaker.

It’s not just her characters that travel to faraway lands, Jacqueline is a bit of a jetsetter herself, having grown up in Virginia and lived in Brooklyn, New York and now Portland, Oregon. Perhaps unsurprisingly, her inspirations are as eclectic as her work. “Sometimes it’s as little as going for a walk and having something just click in my head, and sometimes it’s reading or learning about other cultures. Sometimes finding inspiration is easier than other times, you just have to roll with the punches,” she says.

Her most recent project includes self-published book, I Heart the Arctic, which explores “Inuit myths, Arctic cultures, icy landscapes and the infinite possibilities of the Aurora Borealis.” She has also created album artwork for Aussie band Sunbeam Avenue’s Most Wanted, illustrations for Urban Outfitters and is a regular editorial illustrator for Brooklyn-based artist collective sheepless.org.
