Good Heaven’s new album, Strange Dreams is about to drop, all on the same day as their Sydney show. These are exciting times for Sarah Kelly (formerly of theredsunband), Chris Ross (formerly Wolfmother) and drummer Myles Heskett. They all bring bring their impressive past experience to create, ‘a synthesis of ethereal dream-pop with the brute force of heavy metal’.
We asked Sarah a few questions and here’s what she had to say!
How did the band form?
I had a collection of songs I’d demoed but was between bands, so to speak. Julia Wilson from our label introduced me to Myles. Myles introduced me to Chris. And when we played together, it clicked.
What are the themes running through this album?
Strange dreams… I often have very colourful and surreal dreams; Love, love lost.
What are your inspirations?
Emotional states usually. Two songs were inspired by particular dreams I’d had.
What’s next for the band?
We’re having a marvelous time writing new songs at the moment, trying not to get too freaked out about the impending release! I guess we’ll be playing shows around the place, and collaborating with friends on film clips, things like that.
What’s the strangest dream you’ve ever had?
One of the songs, ‘Are You Sick?’, is about a very strange dream I had. In this dream, I was a leaf floating on the top of the ocean. I was floating there with a whole lot of other leaves, out in the middle of the ocean, and I was rotting. I felt that I was decomposing and I felt the swell of the ocean beneath me.
Dream man/woman?
PASS!
