We like to wax nostalgic from time to time on one of the more authentic, kookier celebrity relationships in recent memory: that of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Author and photographer Ethan Russell’s new exhibit explores the heady early days of love in ‘The Ballad of John and Yoko: Falling in Love’; a pictorial celebration of some never before seen snaps born from private moments.
Anyone who questions the authenticity of their relationship only need to see Lennon’s words to quell any doubts: “Anybody who claims to have some interest in me as an individual artist, or even as part of The Beatles, has absolutely misunderstood everything I ever said if they can’t see why I’m with Yoko… If they can’t see that, they don’t see anything.”
Exhibition opening night: May 12, 6-8pm (featuring a performance by The Falls)
Dates: May 13 – June 18
Venue: Blender Gallery, 16 Elizabeth St, Paddington, Sydney
