Achtung art world, there's a new kid on the block
The Berlin Wall transformed the lives of the German people for almost 30 years, but it couldn’t keep the creatives quiet. In fact, the small acts of rebellion it inspired set the tone for the city’s thriving arts scene today.
Imagine it’s a Sunday morning and you wake up to discover that you can no longer visit your friends on the other side of town, hang out at your favourite coffee shop or go shopping at your treasured haunt. Welcome to Berlin in 1961, where literally overnight, the Berlin Wall (initially made of barbed wire) was erected.
YEN investigates the infuence of The Wall on Berlin’s art scene.
