LMFF Interview with Natalie Wood

Anna Sutton | 8 March 2012

On Sunday night Yen presented the Independent Runway, a L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival event which unites 10 of Australia’s most innovative designers. We spoke to Garth Cook, Jolet Ucchino, Francis Leon, Extinct and Something Else about their A/W collections.

Something Else’s Metamorphosis sees the beloved label flourish with elements of nature. Relaxed silhouettes and signature details such as pearl button finishes and textured crepes mingle with multidimensional prints by artists Georgina Cullum and George Barnes.

“I really liked the word and the concept of metamorphosis – as a brand I wanted to grow the styling up and look at another level of sophistication,” designer Natalie Wood says. “With the concept, there was of course all the elements of nature and its imagery – butterflies, moths, bugs, flowers and trees. There’s a real sense of new life and a celebration of it.”

Into this landscape flutter uexpected details: bold floral embroidery emblazoning a bomber jacket, a French blue dress blossoming with delicate white flowers, a petal-pink silk dress and bouquets of colour in pollinic yellow and autumnal reds.
