“Girl, I got to tell you, that suit looks like a piece of ‘Good God’ wrapped up in some ‘Have Mercy,’ with a side of ‘Unghm!’”
Try these outfits at home and you’ll elicit a similar response from all the homeboys, no really.
Inspired by His Royal Freshness, Yen has teamed up with Tuesday Vintage for the third of our nineties pop-culture shoots to honour the kid who ruled television for half a decade.
The master pick-up line practitioner prowled the hallways of Bel-Air Academy in his trademark inside-out blazer, hurling affection at unsuspecting ladies. That’s our boy.
Known for having the best swag this side of Philly, Will’s dope couture game and hilarious one-liners started a cult-like following that still resonates nearly 25 years on. Think double-denim, snapback hats, Air Jordans and multi-coloured vests. All that gear had to have been a few months’ allowance, but when your Uncle Phil is getting that lawyer money, you can afford to diversify your closet.
Rachel March of Tuesday Vintage travelled back to Will Smith’s heyday to relive all the crazy patterns, bright sweatshirts and silk that were a part of The Fresh Prince’s modus operandi. Teaming up with the super talented photographer Sally Patti, they went down to the courts to play some B-Ball, get some phone numbers and take a few snaps. Channelling this vibrant era in all the right ways, this shoot would make the Prince himself say “Hey girl, I think I’ve seen your pictures somewhere before. Oh yeah, that’s right. They were in the dictionary next to ‘KABLAM!’”
