Romance Was Born SS11/12

By Elise Pitt | 3 May 2011

It was the roaring ‘20s on acid at Romance Was Born’s runway prelude to RAFW on May 1.

Princess Leia models strutted their stuff around the bookcases and long aisles of Sydney’s Mitchell Library for the fashion sensations’ latest collection – The Oracle – which was a fantastical pastiche of NeverEnding Story and art deco inspired looks. Keeping true to the home-grown duo’s reputation for drama on the runway, models transformed into futuristic goddesses with the help of spectacularly theatrical hair and makeup, though this time they took on a more sophisticated grown up feel.

Knee length plaits, bejewelled and plaited side buns, as well as sleek and shiny 1920s finger waves were where the hair was at, while the striking makeup featured dramatic drawn on brows and moles, doe-like false lashes, dark plum and brown shadow with a hint of shimmery gold in the corners of the eye, rosy cheeks and dark rose pink lippy which was darker on the top lip. The look was polished off with inverted two-tone nails, with the crescent painted a contrasting colour. As with most looks straight off the runway, worn as a complete ensemble it might have your friends and family questioning your sanity. Instead, take a few key hair and make-up trends and make them your own.
