If these walls could talk
Posted 22nd Aug 2008 by Katie May Ruscoe
Whether you love it or hate it, chances are that if you live in Sydney you would have paid a visit to Oxford Arts Factory at least once since it opened it's doors this time last year. And what a successful year it's been for the cavernous venue; from exhibitions from Ben Frost and Andy Uprock; bands such as The Teenagers, These New Puritans and Lightspeed Champion; fashion week parties and product launches - if it involved alcohol, music and residents of Surry Hills, the OAF was all over it. So, if your reputation is all about good times then you're hardly going to have a quiet birthday are you? This Saturday the Oxford Art Factory will celebrate the big 1 with a mammoth free party featuring performances from Yves Klein Blue, Snob Scrilla, The Jezabels and more, as well as DJ sets from Kato, Sleater Brockman, Dan De Caires and everyone else who's played there (which really is like, everyone). Party starts at 7pm.
A new Olympic sport perhaps?

In olympiad news that's saucier than a snug-fitting lycra, around 100,000 free condoms have apparently been distributed around Beijing's Olympic Village. Hey, there's a lot of hormones (both real and synthetic) floating around the village and that post-race downtime can get lonely. China especially ain't taking any chances after the great condom drought of Sydney 2000; when 20,000 extra adult balloons had to be shipped in after the competing athletes made quick work of their allocated 51 each. Going for gold indeed.

Pillow Fight (Sydney)

Around two-thousand people are set to participate in a massive Sydney Pillow Fight tomorrow at Belmore Park (next to Central Station) from 3pm to 5pm. If you wanna join the Pillow Fight you can (a) just turn up to Belmore Park in time for the friendly bashing or (b) register on Facebook by joining the Kingdom of Hearts Facebook group. The organiser of the pillow fight plans on holding future quirky adventures such as a mobile clubbing event in October and a beach based water fight in December. Photo: SmugMug

Beauty really is in the eye of the beer-holder
Posted 15th Aug 2008 by Kym Naimo
In what will come as a shock to pretty much no-one, UK researchers have conducted a series of experiments to scientifically prove the phenomenon know as beer goggles. A panel of 84 heterosexual youths were given controlled portions of Passion Pop (probably) and asked to rate the attractiveness of people presented in a series of photos.  Remarkably, the results showed that when drunk, the panel found not only the opposite sex but also the same sex, to be more attractive. Of course, this has long been known by regular drinkers and fans of NOFX who realise that whether wearing, or being viewed through said goggles it’s the beauty within that really counts.
Heard the Green Goss?

We live in a society which unashamedly pursues an almost cult-like infatuation with celebrity culture. The daily activities of us laypeople (myself included) are frequently interpolated with above healthy dosages of those coveted kids that are the rich and famous. If you’re sick of indulging in rumour rag mags and the questionably jocular images of Perez Hilton et al – but can’t quite shake the habit – then maybe its time to inject some substance into your hobby and check out online blog Ecorazzi. Founded in August 2006, it celebrates the latest in ‘green gossip’, keeping you up to speed with celebrity-related environmental, humanitarian and animal rights issues. Who knew Paris Hilton takes regular bike rides (you may ask who cares, but that’s beside the point), or that Pamela Anderson is partnering with a Middle Eastern royal family to create an environmentally friendly hotel? Exactly. Take a peek and read up on what the icons of pop culture do for the greener good.

**Sigh**

So, unless I want my conquest to have a touch of the Sienna Millers about it, it looks like I won't be getting together with Diego Luna after all. If it wasn't heartbreaking enough that they got married earlier this year, the Mexican actor (and top ranker on my list of future husbands) and his *cue another sigh* beautiful partner Camila Sodi welcomed their first little baby this week. While I'm at it I should also add that Luna's best buddy and fellow hottie Gael Garcia Benal is also expecting super good looking offspring. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a pillow to cry into to.
