Fresh from her debut in New York Suzie Rose has returned to launch the sister of her original label Pizzuto. Suzie Rose has made a name for her herself through Pizzuto’s elegant classics with a twist. Pink Sparrow, Suzi’s new venture, follows a similar design principle only without the price tag. Her impeccable cuts and sophisticated tailoring are clearly still key. The name ‘Pink Sparrow’ stands for, “ a common beauty with a point of difference,” which sums not only the label up but each garment within it’s debut collection. Each little party dress and sophisticated piece of day wear has its own twist of individual beauty, from the ruffles to the voluminous sleeves, each garment is designed to stand out. “‘Pink Sparrow is for a fashion savvy young woman, this women looks for versatile wearable garments that are affordable and look high fashion,” and with all those Christmas and New Years festivities just around the bend there couldn’t be a better time for this little sparrow to soar into the fashion sky.
The debut collection was inspired by the myriad of textures and shapes that form the landscape of New York’s Central park. The classic carriages mingle with the touk touks and the trees meld into the surrounding sky scarpers. All this translates into a dynamic combination of stunning dresses and smart suiting. The monochrome tones of winter are balanced perfectly by splashes of vibrant colour. Pink Sparrow is a refreshing concept with an equally refreshing aesthetic.
Suzie Rose is carving a new niche for herself and it looks set to be another equally successful one. There is no sibling rivalry here and there is certainly no keeping this little sparrow grounded.

The Sydney design duo behind ls.clothing have re-invented themselves as The Twelfth Letter. The Twelfth Letter is a more mature and innovative progression of their original design ethos of artistic simplicity and individual difference.
Strong concept pieces splice up their range of abstractly embellished tees and tanks. Innovative ponchos and vests compel everyday dressing to new statement heights. The Twelfth Letter is not only melding the borders between street and formal wear though it is re-defining androgynous dressing with clever cut garments that look equally good on both genders.
Their debut collection Something That is Born Must Grow references Shakespeares gender bending Twelfth Night both figuratively and literally, disguising gender with scarlet and cream vests and more casual double-pocketed hooded trench style vests.
Their simplistic tees and tanks with uneven hems and varied graphic artworks are the perfect antidote to understated dressing, adding that integral touch of character especially when they are layered with the labels statement pieces. The Twelfth Letter is giving wardrobe basics an artistic makeover to ensure they stand out in the crowd.
The Twelfth Letter have distinguished themselves as a label to watch with their debut collection and its name “Something that is Born Must Grow” seems set to be a reflective statement of own their own re-birth and ability to re-invent the ordinary.
The new face in the world of fashion, The Twelfth Letter, certainly look set to have a long and rewarding life ahead of them. Gender transcending clothing is about to become an identifiable notion of confident style and it all starts with the Twelfth Letter.

The brainchild behind Australian label Oscar the Third, Jessian Polk, comes from a vibrant background of traveling and fine arts and when the two combine into a fashion label the result is electric.
Oscar the Thirds designs are a myriad of vivid prints and intricately paneled tailored numbers. The exclusively designed prints are perfectly woven together with paneling, pleating and tucking to create a lifestyle collection that transcends the ordained relaxed Australian style, adding an extra sophistication. Lazy lunches meld into art galleries and open-air ballets with an array of outfits that emanate a joie de vivre. The collections for both 2009 and 2010 introduce a fresh aesthetic that transcends the season offering everything from vivacious colourways to stripes and punches of elaborate embellishment.
Oscar the Third has a standout print in store for 2010 that will provide that much needed burst of colour for winter, through the artistic influence of the famous artist Jackson Pollock. Splashes of colour reminiscent of the ingenious artists haphazard explosions of colour on canvas erupt from Oscar the Third’s structural shift dresses. Fine art and fashion come together in perfect unison reminding us that cold does not mean colourless, instead Oscar the Third exudes warmth.
Oscar the Thirds summer collection is equally as multihued with an intricate array of printed detail so enjoy the rainbows of summer and keep an eye out for Oscar the Thirds exclusive winter rainbow.

Sydney’s trendy Surry Hill’s boutique Somedays has taken its unique retail concept Somewhere else. Somedays, two-Swedish owner/directors, Mattias Friberg and Kristina Vikmans, have recently unveiled their new sister space in Melbourne. Somewhere is the new haven of design innovation in the Royal Arcade off Little Collins Street right in the heart of Melbourne.
The unique boutiques are home to a series of Scandinavia’s best street style labels as well as Australian labels that align with the distinctive style of this trendy European destination. Swedish favourites include Cheap Monday and Dr. Denim as well as Julian Red and the lucky Aussie’s who get to sit alongside them are Secret Squirrel, Sosume, Ode to No One, Status Anxiety.
All the labels no matter which side of the world they come from represent a fresh, bold take on street style and Mattias and Kristina have gone to great interior design lengths to ensure that they are presented in a space that is as aesthetically far away from the hustle and bustle of the city streets below their top floor location as possible. Fur rugs and homely pieces such as books splice up the displays in the light filled spacious space. But wait there is more…

These one of a kind stores also act as a gallery space showcasing the talent of local
artists. The first artist to line
the walls of Melbourne’s Somehwere will be Craig Dermody whose work centralizes
around the concept of fables juxtaposing the mythical characters and themes of
these well known tales with glorious Victorian backgrounds. His work has been
described as “part stoner visionary, part
share house future predictor,” and indeed the work does seemingly meld the
surreal with the sober reality of life. Each of his fictional characters from
witches, to wild horses, floating octopuses and enormous red monsters represent
the rawest of human emotions, oozzing love, jealously, anger and fear into the
world through abnormal yet visually pleasing scenes. The
colourful installation will run from the 18th of November to the 16th
of December, setting high standards for those to follow but somehow I think
Somewhere will continue to live up to them so keep your eyes peeled for what’s
coming next and in the meantime there is plenty of inspired garments to take
in.
