Popsicle weather

Popsicle!! Not the delicious Icy treat but the new fashion store thats "popped up" (hehe) in WA. The first of it's kind in Perth, Popsicle is the brainchild of WA's William Street Collective and is the kind of pop-up store made famous by London's Dover Street Markets and Manhattan boutique, Den. A group of local interior designers have transformed a formerly abandoned building, which for eleven days will house the latest collections from the State's most exciting young designers  - including Dapple-Grey, Ignite Gear and Joveeba. Supported by the City of Perth, Department of Culture and the Arts and the East Perth Redevelopment Authority, Popsicle has been especially created for the Perth Fashion Festival and is running from September 4 - 14. Find it at 214 William Street Northbridge.

Cocoa a go-go

It's pretty much impossible to own too much jewellery - in fact, I believe it's actually been proven. Scientifically. Google it. I should point out a this stage that Renee Garabedian happens to make really good jewellery. Operating out of Western Australia under the brand name Cocoa Pod, Renee creates intricate, nature inspired pieces out of all sorts of pretty things like freshwater pearls, wood, vintage beads, gems and Swarovski crystals. My current fave is the vintage brass and pearl heart you see here. Quite fittingly, Cocoa Pod's first online store opened on the first day of spring (i.e the most florid and sweet-smelling day of the year) and to celebrate, Renee is offering free shipping on all purchases. Nice Eh? The promotion runs until October 6 so get clicking and don't forget to quote 0b6ship at the checkout.
Spring has sprung!
Posted 2nd Sep 2008 by Camilla

August was definitely a very chilly month, the coldest in 64 years to be exact! But the weather is definitely getting warmer - we're already donning the fake bake and flashing a little bit of extra flesh in preparation for the silly season. And the sudden explosion of colour can only mean one thing - summer is on its way! David Jones has chosen to celebrate the joyous arrival of Spring with a bright new theme to kick of the new season's collections. The Carnival of Colour officially kicked off yesterday, with a glorious display of Brazilian inspired exquisite foliage. The Elizabeth Street store will feature over 450'000 individual blooms, including 8'000 stems of bamboo, 6'000 orchids, 40 rare and terrifying meat eating Pitcher Plants, a 40-year-old Aloe Vera plant, pink and white oriental lilies and a variety of exotic birds. Complimentary tours can be secured by calling (02) 9266 5184. Bookings are essential.

When you're the daughter of an Australian Fashion Laureate, you're bound to pick up a few tricks of the trade. After developing a strong understanding of the fashion world and honing her own unique design skills, Carla Zampatti's daughter Bianca Spender is spreading her wings and leaving the stylish nest of her mother's. After launching 'Bianca Spender for Carla Zampatti' in her mother's stores 5 years ago, Spender is tonight hosting the opening party for her very own boutique on Oxford Street. The Bianca Spender line is aimed at younger women but will still be sold under the Carla Zampatti label. The store will also operate as a part-time gallery, accommodated by the storefront's gallery style windows. You can see the Anna Wily Highfield installation and the Bianca Spender range at 9 Oxford Street Paddington.
