Krista Polvere "Here Be Dragons"
Posted 15th May 2008 by Elizabeth Adam

In 2007, alternative-folk artist Krista Polvere left Australia for New York to further pursue her music career.
One of the first people Krista’s music caught the attention of was Lost Highway / Universal artist, Ryan Adams. Adams has since collaborated on songs on Krista’s debut album, “Here Be Dragons” which has just been released in Australia. Krista will be heading to the US later in the year to support Ray LaMontagne but before she heads off, Krista will do a run of shows in her home country. You can catch her album launch @ The Toff in Melbourne on Wednesday May 28th or for further dates head here

Bjork; now even crazier in 3D!
Posted 12th May 2008 by Katie May Ruscoe
As you may well already know, Icelandic music pixie, Bjork, recently made the creepiest music video ever concieved for her single, Wanderlust. Well now the Encyclopedia Pictura directed epic is available in 3D. To be honest, I'm actually too scared to watch it - the originally was enough straight freakness for me. But if you're game enough and knowledgable in the creation of homemade 3D specs, then click away.

If the tired 'The' [insert band name here] titles get you down, sidestep this one just for a minute. Ed Knowles, lead singer of Kiwi band The Checks, snatched everyone's attention at Oxford Art Factory a couple of Wednesday's ago when the band opened with 'What you heard' (starting the set with a ripper of a scream).  Knowles and crew were energy incarnate and, refreshingly unafraid to pull out some Jagger-like jives.
Myspace this, myspace that - just check out a gig and you'll know what I mean.
GOOD SHOES, GOOD TIMES, GOOD FUN...
Posted 10th May 2008 by Tiffany Tondut

Good Shoes, Good Fun, Good Times had by all. Pick the odd one out. No? They’re a band responsible for the latter two, having rocked out the Bush Hall earlier this week in London to a fun crowd of super cool SUPERSWEET kids. If you didn’t make it, the chandeliers sparkled, the pink lights enchanted and Good Shoes seemed to pull the sunshine out of each of artist Rob Ryan’s stage projected stars. The artist himself was there to party on down with the punters. To support us all were L.A band THE PITY PARTY, who’s warbling, distorted basses and thumping drum performances shook a whole new vibe through the soul of the hall. Look out for them…and read more about us at www.supersweet.org

The other day I was in my local news agents when I spied a new issue of ID magazine. Did it contain gratuitous amount of booby? Yes. Did it carry the correct quota of largely unwearable Gareth Pugh outfits? Probably. What set this issue apart from it's predessecors was the fact that it was the Agyness Deyn issue. That's right; Agyness Deyn gussied up, Agyness Deyn sans-make-up, Agyness Deyn as a child, Agyness Deyn with her equally cool boyfriend and testimonials on Agyness Deyn from the likes of Henry Holland an Vivienne Westwood. The entire issue was dedicated to fashions face of the moment. Here's something else they could have stuck in there; Agyness Dean the singer. Above is the video for "who' the new single from New York band, Five O'Clock Heroes, which happens to feature the vocal talents of one Miss Deyn. What do you think?
Tean dreamz
Posted 6th May 2008 by Katie May Ruscoe
As their name would suggest, Parisian trio The Teenagers are fun, funny and flooded with hormones. On blog-flogged singles like Homecoming and Starlett Johansson, Dorian dumont and Michael Szpiner lead off with good intentions (all catchy synth-lines and hum-a-long guitars) but before long, lead singer Quentin Delafon has taken things for a dirty, albeit humourous, turn: his heavily accented English doing little to hide sweaty-palmed lyrics that are heavy with the misguided perviness of any teenage boy. The formula is touching fans somewhere though, as The Teenagers have recently gone from Myspace darlings to "international cool kids". You can find out why when the band tour Australia this June! The Teenagers play brisbane on June 12 before heading to Melbourne, June 13 and Sydney, June 14. Tickets available now. (www.moshtix.com.au)
Something tasty for your Saturday
Posted 3rd May 2008 by Katie May Ruscoe

You know that feeling you get when you forget that something really good is about to go down (like an old friend is coming to visit or your imminent birthday that you know your friends are planning a surprise party for) and then you remember? That's what I feel like everytime I remeber that Crystal Castles exist. I simply love them that much. There's not much I can say about this video aside from the fact that it's for Courtship Dating; the latest single from the Toronto duo which is as addictive and yummy and layered as a piece of backlava.
