Amy doesn't mind living in a man's world, as long as she can be a women in it. She is a self confessed Marilyn Monroe fan and strangely believes they somehow share a cosmic connection. She adores a good read, a delicious choc-chip cookie or five and can't function without a daily morning latte. She one day hopes to move to Russia. Where she will live in a hut, write an epic romance novel, fish in the Neva River and make blini (Russian pancakes) in her spare time.
Okay, she may have a slight obsession with Russia too.
Que Sera!

Before anyone even knew who John Mayer was, I was his biggest fan. The small minority of people that did know of him, only thought of him as the lanky loser who sang about girls' bodies being 'wonderlands'. John Mayer was my hidden obsession, my way of understanding things, he was the man I met as a trembling 17 year old, gob-smacked that this man with beautiful lips and big brown eyes had actually held my hand and kissed my cheek. So, as you can imagine, seeing him now on the front cover of trash mags with headlines screaming 'John calls Jess fat' and 'John Mayer kisses Perez Hilton', really kinda sucks. I started to hate him and I started to believe all of his amazing songs and lyrical conversations were just lies. Fame had gobbled him up. It wasn't until this morning that I remembered he had a blog. I logged on and read an entry that made me see him as the person I once believed him to be.
He connects and operates in a world like no other. He has the ability to make us all feel equal to him, he lets us know that it's okay to feel insecure and scared sometimes.
Here's a bit of what he has to say:
"This is about the girl in her bedroom who poses in front of the camera she's awkwardly holding in her outstretched hand. She'll take a hundred photos until coming up with one she's happy with, which inevitably looks nothing like her, and after she's done poring over images of herself, will post one on her myspace page and then write something like " I don't give a f*ck what you think about me."
Go here to read his whole blog. I really do recommend it. It will leave you feeling a little more sure about yourself. A little more satisfied that we're all insecure in some way, even if we rarely show it or we eventually give way to denial. Listening to his song Clarity, may also add to the mood.

Amy needs to rant!

I need to whinge and whinge I will! The media make me sick to my stomach. Hopefully most of you are aware that in excess of 25 000 people have been killed (more than half of this amount are said to be children) by a horrendous cyclone in Burma. Incidentally, the day this story broke, Grant Hackett's 'pot belly' story also emerged. When deciding upon what story to put on the front page of most Newspapers - The Hackett saga won.1. Grant doesn't have a gut you imbeciles. If you knew anything about sport and training, you'd know that your stomach can inflate from carb overload (i.e. the poor guy needs energy!).
2. 25 000 + people have died!! In excess of thousands upon thousands are left homeless, starving and in extreme despair over losing family and friends - but the people of Australia would rather criticise Hackett and his 'gut' (or, so the newspaper editor's believe)
3. If a bus blows up on the street in Afghanistan and kills 55 people, it'll barely receive a five line article on page 18 in the newspaper. But if a bus was blown up in down-town Sydney or London or New York, it would make front page for 10 days in a row and we'd be forced to relive every gruesome detail of the event for the next five years to come!
4. The last point I would like to make is... why is it, that when going to check the news on a particular news site the other day - the headlining homepage story read something along the lines of ' Corey causes a stir in the BB house'?!!
Again, 25 000 + people have died in Burma, but our media is clearly more interested in Corey, the party-boy-brat, who's been glorified by being put into a house full of dead-set drop kicks.
I am so angry at the world today - but hey, at least I got it off my chest!
Thoughts?

I have just returned from a happiness conference. Yep, that's right. I went to a seminar on how to get happy. It was run by The Happiness Institute and all proceeds from the night were donated to Camp Quality - the amazing charity for sick children and their families.100+ people gathered in a room and attentively listend to Dr. Happy (Australia’s leading expert in Positive Psychology, Dr. Timothy Sharp ) and well-known comedian Anthony Ackroyd. Many stories were told and many laughs were shared. It was amazing to look around the room and see so many faces from all walks of life. I assume most of whom were looking for answers, searching for a cure for a broken heart, grief, sickness, loss, or depression. Whatever we were all looking for, this seminar bought us a little closer to finding it. Go here to check out The Happiness Institute's website. They're a group of people merely hoping to make a difference. You can even sign up to receive daily happiness quotes, to lift your spirits. So c'mon, paste a smile on your dial and get happy!

I read a lot. Okay, I actually read more than I sleep, eat, walk or
talk. I couldn't tell you how many books I've read, but it's quite an
astronomical figure. I believe reading opens up my imagination and
gives life to my emotive/creative mind. I believe a lot of my life
leasons have been learnt from what I have read in novels. Anyway, the
point of my post is to tell you to read
My Sister's Keeper by Jodi
Picoult. In all the many books that I've read, I haven't read one quite
like it. Not only was this book impossible to put down, it had me
crying throughout. For me, this book was quite hard to read because it
does sit so close to home, but I loved it all the same.Apparently, it's in the works to be made into a film. Personally, I would rather not watch it, because the characters I have in my mind are so real and so vivid, I would hate to see some hot-shot movie director ruin it for me.
No book, other than The Bronze Horseman has affected me at such an emotional level.
This novel is about family, love, living, dying and everything in between. It's magical. Please, read it and let me know what you think.

My Journey into Apple-hood.

"
Yeah, yeah Grandma - I get it, an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but I love oranges better!" In hindsight, I now, deeply regret not listening to my dear Nana. If only I gave those four oranges a day the flick and started getting my chompers into a red ball of crunch. Long story short; I ate so many oranges when I was younger that one day after devouring nearly a whole litre of orange juice, my lips, eyes, tongue, cheeks, well pretty much my whole head swelled up. I was devastated, not because I looked like a puffer fish on steroids, but because I knew my love affair with oranges had sadly come to a bitter end.So basically the doc informed that my body had had enough oranges and decided to reject them, not to mention EVERY OTHER FRUIT besides apples and pears as well! Two of the most boring fruits right? You're telling me!! So over the last few years I have had to say no to pavlova, fruit salad, glorious fruit muffins and wait for it. . . . PUNCH! I reluctantly have forced myself to love apples. Off-hand I can name all varieties, the good and the bad. I have become an apple queen. Apple juice, apple pie, apple chips, apple sauce - you name it, I love it. So point of my rant - apples have just been announced the 'superfruit'. Go here to read about this magnificent discovery - just randomly, apples have eight times more antioxidants than bananas! Thank the Lord for that, I always thought banana's were so overrated. So now, with this informed knowledge, I will continue to eat a multiple array of apple produce each day, in the sheer hope that my lips, eyes, tongue and so forth keep feelin' the love.

Hey Buddy, My Face is Up Here!

We all know who Krystal is. We can't walk into a newsagent without copping a flash of her surgically enhanced assets protruding off the front cover of a particular magazine and straight into our faces. For me and many other women, this image does nothing but: 1. Make us gag a little
2. Re-affirm that this is far from beautiful.
For men and young boys though, I assume they would experience the exact opposite reaction. These images in no way help a young girls view of what encompasses real beauty. It also, in no way gives young males a true perception of beauty and what is deemed attractive or pretty. This only sets them a standard - a very high standard at that.
What hope do girls have of ever pleasing a man when they have been constantly fed images of false beauty? Well, there is hope and a lot of it, but I guess it's just a point.
Tonight at 6.30pm on A Current Affair Krystal will be pleading her case against the only thing that made her famous. I guess we will hear her whinge about how she didn't mean to be a 'bad influence for young girls', but then again who will believe her? I sure don't see any hands raised.
