On September 28th at the Forum in Sydney, M.I.A and back up dance Cherrie exploded onto the stage wearing Sydney based designers Romance Was Born. M.I.A bamboo banged out under the shade of a monster hologram hoodie, cap and leggings from Romance Was Born's ' Nocturnal' range and hologram swim suit from the ' Weird Science' range. Romance Was Born was well suited to M.I.A's jumpin Afro-didge, hectic patterned, vibrant style and she worked it like she owned it. M.I.A led the crowd into a thirsty frenzy with her kinetic dancing and punching lyrics. When she pulled up a dozen girls to join her on stage, it was Bondi meets Colombo in an Anglo version of one of her film clips, with blonde girls clambering to slap and gyrate on MIA's ass, which she poked out to the delight of many. One crazed fan even named M.I.A as a new lesbian icon. The encore had me wetting my pants in excitement. M.I.A was to repeat the heat and energy of her Forum show at Parklife where she lifted the lid on an otherwise jaw chomping freak show of a festival.               

Having the insipid insomnia disease and being one of the few fortunate ones to reside in our nations illustrious capital of nightlife, Canberra, I am necessarily privy to the relentlessly disappointing nine hours or so of Rage. The egalitarian approach to programming that Rage employed so successfully in my youth has been abandoned, replaced with a repetitive stream of prematurely ejaculated emo and tonsil metal. Each weekend the program introduces a sprinkling of new videos, the remainder is a rehash of the previous week but in a different order. Gone are the days when Rage shaped the musical tastes of a generation. We are now subjected to those wussy little wingers 'My Chemical Romance' on repeat for eternity, perhaps interlaced with a bit of Jared 'pansy ass' Leto poncing about in too much eye shadow. Watching Time Life 128 soft rock hits is more amusing and I can own the entire series for only $29.98!

I didn’t peg Paul Keating for my saviour but his latest call to move Parliament House to Sydney certainly puts him in the running. The Kster considers there to be an ‘air of unreality about Canberra’, indeed in a city where nite clubs and Soviet style public service buildings become one and the streets are as empty as the backroads of Siberia by 10pm on a Friday you gots to give Pauly K. cred for trying to get the pollies up to his Potts Point crib for some serious ravey chow down fun times. UNREAL!
