Atrocious!

Atrocities are an 8-piece western swamp rock band from Sydney. They recently released a 7" single on local label
Timberyard Records, which sounds like an epic, gun slinging Birthday Party, but with more subtlety and understanding of space. They play a Timberyard showcase
tomorrow night at Spectrum alongside Warhorse, Bain Wolfkind and Diamondback Rattler, so if you like your rocknroll scuzzed out and strung out then this should be up your alley. You can also catch them this Saturday August 23rd at Louie's warehouse in Marrickville (34 Murray st) with Circle Pit, Orodruin and Bedwettin' Badboys.
Soul Money Gang Vibe

Hit The Jackpot are a 3-piece from Adelaide who play "simple, noisy pop" songs by their own description, somewhere in the realm between Beat Happening, Dinosaur Jr and Sonic Youth (which is fitting, as they've played alongside all three of those artists in some incarnation). They started out as a two piece with couple Kynan Lawlor and Jessica Thomas, and have since expanded to include former Love Like... Electricution member
Seb (whose shoes are currently being filled by the infamous Scott O'Hara of Lindsey Low Hand/True Radical Miracle fame). They have an amazing new record out on Chapter Music called "Soul Money Gang Vibe" (HTJ's first release not on their own Fken Stoner imprint) and to celebrate are touring Melbourne and Sydney. You can catch them in Melbourne on Friday at The Tote alongside Beaches, Guy Blackman and The Twerps,
and in Sydney next Saturday at Repressed Records and Sunday night at Spectrum (with Naked On The Vague and Circle Pit).

Melbourne 5 piece Spider Vomit return to Sydney this weekend after many months, armed with all new songs.  They play rock n roll the way that Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones, Royal Trux and Blue Cheer intended.  A rough, powerful, psychedelic trip with intense male/female vocals courtesy of Craig Dermody and the eternally stylish Hannah Brooks. You can see them this Friday, August 1st at Spectrum from 8pm, presented by Hit The Switch. See www.myspace.com/spidervomit for more.

Amazing new record stores

Repressed Records is a new independent record store, which opened in Newtown, Sydney at the start of this month. I went in to check it out yesterday and what i found was easily the greatest range of new and secondhand vinyl and CD's i've ever found in Sydney. Everything from Experimental, Punk, Psychedelic, Garage, Metal and Classic Rock, including rarities and imports. Better than this, their prices are seriously too cheap for their own good. They've been hidden away in Penrith for the past few years, so luckily for inner city folk like myself they've relocated to a far more convenient location: 356 King St. Newtown, a couple of blocks down from the station away from the city. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.
Sunshine and Grease (named after the Royal Trux song) is a brand new record store in Melbourne, located inside Bus Gallery at 117 Little Lonsdale St. in the CBD. The store was launched over the weekend with a 2 day festival of bands including Panel Of Judges, The Ancients, Always, Circle Pit, Lost Animal, Justin K Fuller, Bum Creek and more. They currently stock a small but very impressive collection of new and second-hand records, cd's, dvd's, videos, cassettes and books, which is no doubt set to grow in the near future. If you're interested in underground happenings of the musical, film, literature and artistic variety this is definately the place to visit.
