Call me a fanboy if you will, but in 10 days time I’ll be setting my alarm for 3am, making a large cup of tea and tuning into a live Internet broadcast of the annual apple keynote speech at San Francisco's MacWorld expo. In what has become the Mecca of the apple computer loving community; the speech sees Apple Inc CEO and mastermind Steve Jobs takes the stage and - like a prophet - speak to the faithful, unveiling to the world the latest “must have” product/service/way of life. Internet blog sites have been in a flurry this week with the announcement that former Def-Jam CEO and all round hip hop mogul, Jay-Z, is in talks with Apple to head a new music label venture from the company. If these rumours are true, record companies should be shaking in their ostrich skin boots. Jigga has proved beyond all doubt that he is a businessman at heart; grooming then small time players such as Kanye West and Rhianna to become the musical phenomenons we know them as today. One could only imagine the impact on the music industry if Hov teamed up with the people who brought the world the Ipod and Macbooks. Watch this space…

Wall and Piece

I have a friend who collects Banksy. He's been collecting them for years. He is smart. Much smarter than you or I. Forgive me for being so assuming; it's not that I (or anyone else for that matter) am particularly unintelligent, it's just that my friend is smarter. You see, Banksy; guerilla artist extraordinaire- one who has traveled the world, risked his life painting in war-torn countries and hosted a spate of popular exhibitions is, right now, one popular man. In is latest work, entitled "Trolley" Banksy "attempts to capture all the timeless poetic majesty of tracking a pack of chicken nuggets in the dawn light". Upon going on sale, "Trolley" sold out in a matter of hours. If that wasn't proof enough of his growing popularity and notoriety, a quick search on ebay proves you won't walk away with much change from $4000 if you want to own one of his highly coveted prints. For those of you who don't quite have that kind of disposable income, his latest book,
Banksy: Wall and Piece won't quite fill that blank space on the wall, but it will make a nice addition to your book shelf.

Tomorrow, Sydney’s favourite hidden fashion gem, Capital L, turns seven and to say happy birthday, a group of talented local artists- including Jonathan Zawada, XXX’Zilla and Miss Erin Forsyth, have given the boutique a beeeeautiful aerosol makeover. To celebrate their new face, the South Dowling Street boutique will be
holding a mad cool birthday block-party! Weather permitting, the
festivities will start 3pm tomorrow outside the store and, as all good
block-parties should, will spill out into neighbouring laneways until
the police break that shit up. So tonight pray for good weather and,
even if the party isn't on tomorrow (I'll keep you posted on that
one), go down to say happy birthday and check out the amazing wall art
anyway.
