Sigrid Brown
In Issue 34, Sigrid enlightened us on the equally subversive arts of homemade tattooing and Guerilla Gardening. And what is Ms Brown's favourite thing about Brisbane in the Spring? "Spring combines the best bits of Summer and Winter; you still get to wear stockings but don't have to wear jumpers, you can dine outside but it's not too warm to order a hot chocolate."

Canadian-born photographer Jill Greenberg has knickers in a twist over at The Atlantic. She was hired by the publication to shoot john McCain for the cover of the mag but deliberately manipulated the lighting on set to produce some interesting results.

He looks totally sinister right? This shot is nothing compared to the other ones she has since got a bit photoshop-happy with on and posted on her website. Check 'em out...

...it's been reported Jill feels it was "somewhat irresponsible" of The Atlantic to hire her in the first place and The Atlantic has issued an apology to McCain.

Little Scout crept out of the shadows very cautiously in the Autumn of 2008. Its two main members Melissa and Patrick decided to lock themselves in a room, give themselves some time and see what they really sounded like by themselves. Little Scout emerged as fresh purveyors of fine pop music with a touch of fragility. Enamoured with a good dose of encouragement from their pals, and with the help of a triangle, casio beat and a tamborine, the band took to the bright lights of the stage in May 2008. The duo became four when good friends Kirsty, Miro and sometimes Cam were added to the Little Scout muffin mix, contributing dreamy clarinet, drums, triangle and harmonies. Suffice to say, Little Scout hasn't mastered sweet rock moves by any means, but they often try to smell nice and wear fancy shoes while performing. (read less)If you want to hear more of them in the comfort of your own home...their EP, Dead Loss, is available from Rocking Horse Records in the city or via their 'space.

The Neo Goth exhibition at the UQ Art Museum looks at the darker aspects of popular culture. We know gothic culture isn’t new. It has it’s roots in 18th century literature and it’s from this base that the lineage of today’s goth culture can be traced. The exhibition explores the subculture and different interpretations of it. It challenges it’s underground status, suggesting it’s aesthetic has been absorbed into the mainstream.

"September 1st: It takes just oneday to change a life. Run an event, or give oneday’s pay: Educate a young person for life."

The annual oneday campaign is happening on September 1st and is a fundraising campaign run through the Oaktree Foundation. It aims to support overseas education projects with this year's focus directed towards young people in South Africa. They're aiming to raise a quarter of a million dollars for their education projects. They want all Aussies to get involved by donating one day's pay to the charity, alternatively, they're encouraging you to run an event.
