Tara is a journalism student at RMIT, and is considered highly odd. Rather than crushing on Brad Pitt and Pete Wentz, she falls in love with TV journalists, mostly unknowns to other people. She spends an unhealthy amount of time constantly refreshing her Facebook page, and, what she considers a healthy amount of time, although others may beg to differ, shopping for pretty new dresses!

Bitchiness has always being a problem for girls but now it seems to be getting out of control! Gossip is an issue that crosses generations but I’m sure the surge in popularity of Gossip Girl has only helped the process of glorifying gossip.
The Sydney magazine industry was, and still is, in turmoil with the blog 4inchheelsonly, exposing the ‘supposed’ dirty secrets of these mags. Maghag, as the blogger refers to herself, has already provoked heated debate about beauty editors and their freebies, as well as the realities of work experience and retrieving bananas for editors. Obviously inspired by these people, a person called Jane Smith has popped up on my Facebook friends. Suddenly, all hell broke loose in my university course. Jane uncovered (and I use that term loosely) gossip snippets about all the different year levels and exposed love interests, sexuality issues and unrequited love. At the start it was funny, you could have a little giggle like ‘Oh My God, did they really kiss?’ and ‘Oh, I saw that as well and thought it was interesting’ but then things took a turn for the worse and people were accused of being Jane and malicious gossip was spread. It wasn’t funny anymore. After a few weeks rest, Jane has arisen from the ashes again with more goss, and who knows where it is going to go now?
Psychologists and www experts always go on and on about the dangers of cyber bullying and I personally think the rise of ‘gossip blogs’ could be the next nasty thing on the ‘net. Teenage girls are so tech-savvy now and blogs could easily be started, ruining friendships and reputations through lies. I don’t know what can be done to stop it. Any ideas?

QV is certainly becoming the place where the cool kids in Melbourne hang out. It’s bursting at the seams with cool shops, gourmet eateries and funky bars and the corner will go into coolness overload on Saturday April 19 when it hosts its very own street party!
The QV Street Party is being held to celebrate the latest casual and street wear looks from Red Cape Lane, home to Melbourne’s hottest youth street wear labels like Mooks, Edge Clothing, Stussy and Fox.
But they’ll be more than shopping to be done on the day, with Australia’s best skaters and BMX riders there to increase the heart rate as the audience witnesses all the thrills and spills of the bikes and boards! And if you’ve watched the opening scenes of Bond flick, Casino Royale, you’ll want to be there to see Trace Elements showcase their jaw-dropping art of Parkour. They’ll also be performing Running Free, visually amazing!
If you need something to tap your toes along too while you ponder whether to buy that hoodie or this hoodie, DJ Matt Sofo will be on hand providing some tunes and local hip-hoppers Wicked Force will have you cheering along to their hop-hop and break dancing routines.
There will be a whole bunch of discounts being offered on the day like 20% off selected sunglasses at Sunglasses Hut, 25% off all items at Westco and Fox, and 15% off at Edge for Edge Clothing Card Customers. Shoppers will also go into the draw to win a Dirt Jump Mountain Bike from SHM if they spend $50 or more in any Red Cape Lane stores.
The QV Street Party is from noon to 4pm and more information can be found on their website.

The online Oscars have just concluded! And the big winner of the night...Laughing Baby. Such a simple idea, seen so many times by other babies, yet this one in particular takes the cake for most adorable video. It is pretty darn cute though, I reckon.
Other winners included an instructional video on how to complete a Rubik's Cube and Balloon Bowl, which involves a skateboarder and blue balloons, watch it to see it unfold!
According to the awards page, winners receive bragging right, a trophy and a special invitation to an event later on in the year...mysterious!
Unfortunately the awards are not so 'special' yet that all the nominees could be flown to one place for the awards ceremony. All 12 winners were announced online, but as You Tube spokesman, Aaron Ferstman, told Associated Press, "who knows what the future may hold?"

Fashion week is over in Melbourne and we’re all a little bit sad. Actually, make that super sad because now all we hear about is the Grand Prix and their grid girls in their tiny, tiny clothes. But now we can live our fashion dreams again, and make it a little bit more long term, as in, get a job! Prospect 360 is a company run by Greta Donaldson which regularly holds seminars for young people wanting to break into the media industry (notoriously hard at its best). The Fashion Media Seminar on Sunday April 13 is perfect for YEN readers hoping to one day have a career in fashion journalism. There will be a tour of a photography studio, as well as watching a shoot going on. Then THE experts in fashion journalism will be there to discuss work experience as well as take questions. The gurus are Mia Freedman (my personal idol), Rachel Wells (fashion reporter, The Age), Melly Dee (editor, Fashion Journal) and Julie McCartin (fashion reporter, Leader Newspaper Group). So, get those stilettos and race to their website like a cheapskate to the goodie bags at a fashion show, and buy your tickets NOW!

The Wishing Well is a band with a busy time ahead of them. On March 9, this captivating group will launch their first single, Life on the Border, ahead of a nationwide tour. Their sound has being compared to Ryan Adams (really, why does his name have to be so similar to Bryan Adams?) and David Gray, but truly, their sound is uniquely theirs. They are relative newcomers to the music scene, performing as a band for only 12 months, but the acoustic and orchestral sounds really come together to create music that is just as good live, maybe better, than as recorded. Their single launch at the East Brunswick club is sure to be a massive affair, as the band are supported by Tim McMillan, Benson Campain and comedian Alison Bice, between sets. The Single Launch tour continues through regional Victoria, than to areas such as Surfer’s Paradise, Byron Bay, Mt Beauty and Hobart, surely there's a venue that anyone can catch this perfectly tuneful band in the perfect place, live on stage. So turn up the sound on your laptop, grab a glass of red wine, and listen to their music and buy tickets on their MySpace page. You’ll feel seriously relaxed afterwards. And then you can thank me.

Part of Yen’s tagline is ‘if you want abs like Calista Flockhart, don’t read our magazine,’ and now, whenever someone asks what Yen is, that is how I describe it. They get it then. So, in my ever present boredom during never-ending uni holidays, I was browsing through Facebook groups and came across this awesome group, that totally relates to that promise. It’s called Beauty vs. Industry and its basic premise is that beauty is about whatever you are, not what modern celeb culture dictates, nor what the latest magazine says. Members of the group do what I did in the picture above. Mine is pretty basic and needs a bit more added to it, but that’s simply what the group does. There are thousands of images, and I find them all so fascinating to see what people are saying about themselves, and emphasizing that they really don’t give a damn about the industry. They are all beautiful. A real pick me up.

When you first hear of the band, The Wombats you might quite rightly think of some Australian kids band, but no, this band couldn't get anymore English if they tried.
The Wombats are a three-piece set from Liverpool, who are dominating the airwaves with their song, Let's Dance to Joy Division (slightly outdated however, their newest song is Moving to New York). Their accents are clearly defined in the songs, and the guitar riifs will have you tapping along even if you're not normally a 'tapper-alonger.' One newspaper desribed them as the next Artic Monkeys if that gives you an idea of what they sound like!
However, reviewers have claimed that stardom beckons for these 'mighty marsupials', so get into them quick before everyone else does and 13-year-old teeny-boppers get too attached!
