Tara is a journalism student at RMIT, and is considered highly odd. Rather than crushing on Brad Pitt and Pete Wentz, she falls in love with TV journalists, mostly unknowns to other people. She spends an unhealthy amount of time constantly refreshing her Facebook page, and, what she considers a healthy amount of time, although others may beg to differ, shopping for pretty new dresses!

So Christmas is over for another year. All that craziness, all that hair-pulling, and particularly all that MONEY, gone again. Well, it was all worth it because personally, I think Christmas is pretty awesome. And then, of course, it leads to the second best thing...SALES!!! Today, my Mum and I braved the horrendous crowds, although not as bad as yesterday, and scored ourselves some neat little bargains. Whilst I got some great deals, the shops weren't exactly in tip-top condition. Clothes were everywhere, the right size hard to come by unless you're a 6 and many of the best things weren't even on sale. So, if you do head to your local shopping centre, make sure you have comfy shoes (easy to take on and off if buying shoes), a simple outifit (no tricky zips or thousands of buttons) and be prepared to get down on your hands and knees to find your size (particularly for bras). But the awesome bargains are there, and they're only going to get cheaper as the days go by. Happy Shopping!

So daggy. So uncool. Exactly what makes it one of the best shows of all time. Laugh at this scene, wipe away your tears, and then find more clips!

Kate Miller-Heidke is finally convincing Australia that she is a genuine artist, despite her quirkiness, and self-confessed ‘loopy songs.’ In the current state of manufactured, bubble gum performers, Miller- Heidke is a refreshing breath of fresh air with amazing musical theatre live performances. A professionally trained opera singer, she has enjoyed minor success on Triple J with her previous albums, Telegram and Circular Breathing, but reviewers have said her new album Little Eve, will be her ‘big break.’ Her biography on her official site compares this album to set of Russian dolls (babushkas). You twist open the song to find her special insight, as well as her heartfelt story.
However, it’s her show you absolutely MUST catch. One reviewer described her ‘crazy on-stage antics’ as captivating and another said she was ‘blown away at how much potential this girl has to reinvigorate the Australian music scene.’ Miller-Heidke is currently performing in Queensland, but if you’re not lucky enough to see her in the flesh then you can watch her on Live at the Chapel, Saturday at noon on Channel 7. The video above is one her most enchanting performances.

Finally the lust of my life has arrived on my doorstop. Nope, not a never-ending box of Pizza Shapes, which have no calories whatsoever. Sadly. Tree of Life has finally opened at Chadstone, The Fashion Capital! The new loop mall section of this shopping Mecca has unveiled some long awaited stores for the die-hard shopper. So, yesterday as I was hunting the miles of shops for a dress suitable for a fashion launch a light bulb finally popped up in front of me. Tree of Life is THE place to head for a massive array of dresses, skirts and tops. The serenity of the place hits you straight away, as you inhale the burning incense and see all the beautifully printed scarves. And then, the dresses. So, so many. All different patterns, styles and lengths. From the ‘so-in-right-now’ maxi dress, to a cute little button up dress with a ribbon wrapped around. The dresses are 100% cotton and excellent for just throwing on for the beach, or else dressing up with a belt, earrings and dressy shoes. Get there ASAP for your summer wardrobe.

Girl Power is back with a vengeance. A real vengeance. And no, I don’t mean those lingerie girls, excuse me, Spice Girls. Whilst the phrase is most commonly associated with the newly reformed group, this new generation is certainly establishing a new version of girl power. Everyone’s in it for themselves. We don’t look out for other girls; we only look out for our own feelings. If you have listened to FM radio at all in the past couple of weeks, you surely would have heard Paramore’s song, or Soko’s bitchy song, I’ll Kill Her. These songs have very similar undertones. Basically, ‘you stole my man, and now I’m pissed off with you.’ Paramore is trying not too brag that she now has the man, but can’t help herself, and Soko is just blatantly angry at the girl who stole her boyfriend, throwing insults here, there and everywhere.
So, is this a positive attitude to adopt? Does it make all the feminist movements seem somewhat redundant if we’re now just getting angry at each other because of boy troubles? Just something to ponder, I suppose. They're also pretty darn catchy songs!

Tomorrow is International Day of Tolerance, and the world would benefit a whole lot if everyone did their bit, not only tomorrow, or the day after, but every day. We are currently in a climate where people fear fellow humans because of what they wear on their heads, or what country they were born in, and tolerance is seemingly non-existent. In the middle of this federal election, all we hear about is that to succeed as a democracy, we need to have a secure economy. However, Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the UN, was correct when he said “no society can hope to flourish if it does not promote this essential virtue.”
With tomorrow as a starting point, Australia needs to focus on bridging the gaps between minority groups, and supposed ‘majorities.’ Whether it being more understanding of the Muslim religion, actually learning about the plight of Aboriginals, rather than just judging them, or simply being patient when someone takes too long at the petrol bowser, everyone can do their bit.

Social Networking. It seems to be the buzz of word of 2007. You can network on Facebook, MySpace and Bebo. According to
these guys, the definition of social networking is the use of a website or event to connect with people who share personal or professional interests. Everyone has done it, even if you don’t think you have. Ever joined a group on Facebook bringing together people from your long-lost primary school? We’re all becoming experts at it, and this is no bad thing. It increases job opportunities and can get ‘you in the know’.
Now, Greta Donaldson of Prospect 360, has organized a proper, official social networking opportunity for media people. If you ever wanted to break into the industry and you live in Melbourne, you should attend the Prospect 360 Coffee Catch-up, Mixing it with the Big Wigs Morning. There will be representatives from Melbourne Victory, The Sunday Age, Nova 100 and many others. Tickets are $30 and include coffee, speeches from the Big Wigs, as well as an opportunity to mingle.
