Sao Paulo, New York, Japan

This exhibition of Photographs by Natasha Phillips, Vlad da Cunha and Josh Raymond is centred around the complexities and ambiguities of encounters between visitors and inhabitants of cities. The images in this exhibition compel us to think about how we experience the street, its people and wider notions of place.
Natasha, Vlad and Josh live and work in Sydney, Australia.

The Photographers:

Natasha Philips. New York.
Natasha Phillips's approach to street photography is shaped by faces, and although her work is never exclusively expressed with only images of faces, her work is activated by the personal relationships she forges on the street with her subjects.

New York was photographed in Manhattan and Brooklyn, USA.

Vlad da Cunha. Sao Paulo.
Vlad da Cunha's cityscapes are molecular and rhizomatic. He intentionally places himself both physically and symbolically in these places. Sao Paulo is offered as an impenetrable and vast panoramic wall yet at the same time the viewer is offered doorways and holes to enter the Brazilian megalopolis.

Sao Paulo was photographed in Sao Paulo, Brasil.

Josh Raymond. Japan.
Josh Raymond’s images are documents, not just of personal photographic moments and experiences, but also part of some greater moments in the teleology of cultural survival. This Japanese series is not merely built of Tokyo faces but of the cartography of the photographers eye and his subjects.

Japan was photographed in Tokyo, Japan.
