YEN Presents - HEAD CASE 2008

The term acquired brain injury (ABI) is used to describe all types of brain damage that occur after birth. The causes of this ABI are many and range from infection and disease to car accidents, near drowning and drug or alcohol abuse - meaning no one is immune from developing or being affected by this disability. It is thought that ABI affects over 730.000 people in Victoria alone.
Headcase is an art exhibition that aims to uncover Australia's brightest young art stars as well as raise awareness of Acquired Brain Injuries. Organizers of this inaugural event are currently seeking submissions, so whether you're a designer, photographer, artist or all around creative soul, this is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in a subject matter that will challenge, inspire and offer a hint of the unexpected.
The brief for the exhibition asks entrants to respond to the theme of loss with works linking back to the experiences of people with an acquired brain injury - it could be the sufferers themselves or those who love and support them.
A panel of judges made up of leading figures from the Melbourne art industry will select 30 finalists to exhibit at Melbourne's distinguished Sofitel Hotel from September one - three. The works will be up for sale with 70% of profit going to the artist and 30% donated to Brain Injury Australia. A people's choice award of $5,000 will also be awarded to the artist whose work receives the most number of votes at the exhibition's launch event on September first.
Submissions close on August one so if you would like to enter your work then simply register your interest here.
Submissions should be emailed as a JPEG or PDF under 6MB.
