It’s not too often that big hype is lived up to. In the case of Santogold aka Santi White, it’s lived up to and well beyond. After bursting on to our airwaves in May as JJJ’s Album of the Week, Santogold features production from the very elite (Switch, Diplo, Freq Nasty, XXXChange, Spank Rock) and sees White delve effortlessly into dub, hip-hop and soul whilst still paying homage to her punk-rock roots. From the mesmerizing L.E.S Artistes and Lights Out to the ball-breaking Shove It and smack-you-in-your-face Creator, we can see why famed-producer Mark Ronson not only recruited her for his album Versions, but is also envious of her lack of “care for conforming to mainstream guidelines."
