Rock ‘n’ Roll Market + Fifties Fair

Catherine Milne | 2 August 2010

Wrap your mittens around your kittens and get ready to celebrate retro-style. Sydney fans of all things vintage are spoiled for choice this month with two retro-inspired events on the calendar: the inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll & Alternative Market in Tempe and The Fifties Fair in Wahroonga.

The Sydney Rock ‘n’ Roll and Alternative Market

At the Sydney Rock ‘n’ Roll & Alternative Market, Sunday 8 August, you’ll find a range of  clothing and memorabilia stalls  for lovers of rockabilly, burlesque, punk and goth. Up for grabs are vintage clothes, jewellery, records, CDs, as well as homewares and collectables. Treat yourself to a fifties-style makeover from Bexterity and the Lady Luck Lovelies and swing-dance your way through the afternoon with live music from The Satellites from 1 pm.  Future markets will be held the third Sunday of each month with September’s market running as part of the Sydney Fringe Festival.

The Fifties Fair

Dress up in your vintage best and head up to Wahroonga for the The Fifties Fair on Sunday 29 August. The day is all about celebrating the 1950s’ look and lifestyle so expect a crowd of poodle skirts, greaser quiffs and Bettie Paige fringes. The all-day event is held in the leafy grounds of Rose Seidler House and the program includes: live music from The Velvet Set, DJs, swing-dancing demos, a vehicle display and stalls selling 1950s’ clothing, bric-a-brac and collectables.
