Love Your Body With Frances Cannon x Third Drawer Down
Artist Frances Cannon is here to help you banish those nasty Nancy thoughts that pop up like meerkats in your brain. You know, the ones where you take aim at that body of yours? Well it’s time to cut yourself some slack and Cannon is by your side helping spread acceptance and love of the skin you’re in with her lovely line work. Her illustrations of naked female bodies are artistic affirmations that no matter what shape or size we come in, it’s pretty awesome. She says her art has helped her with her own body acceptance: “I never used to draw fat bodies. When I was younger I only would draw the ‘ideal’ body as portrayed by the media,” says Cannon. “But a few years ago I started drawing bodies that looked like mine and it was such a positive and empowering experience that I started sharing these drawings online and they started gaining popularity. It all started with me wanting to draw MY body.”
Cannon’s latest project saw her team up with fun homewares and gift store Third Drawer Down. The collaboration came, says Cannon, after she drew a mural on the window of the Prahran Third Drawer Down store. “Everyone loved my mural so much that it seemed like a grand idea to do a collaboration too!”
The collaboration sees Cannon’s artwork grace a glorious pink tote. “The design for the tote bag is one of my most iconic [laughs] designs and has been one of the most important drawings of my career,” says Cannon. “So it made sense to put it on a beautiful pink tote bag.”
Tote, $30 and button mirror, $10, available December 8, 2016.
