Kimya Dawson Aus tour
YEN is proud to be associated with the enchanting Kimya Dawson as we announce our partnership for her upcoming Australian tour. With the voice of a happy-go-lucky child and a spirit to match, Kimya Dawson captured hearts the world over with her work on the Juno soundtrack. In particular, the sweetly heartfelt serenade, "anyone else but you" formed the basis of one of the award winning film's most cherished scenes.
With the ability to convey tenderness, intelligence, light, humour and originality - Kimya Dawson is everything you could want in a musician and we at YEN can't wait for you to fall in love with her as much as we have. Shows kick off in June - for more info and details on dates head here.
You lucky little bastard!

Does your job leave you feeling unsatisfied? Do you bus home each night to a re-heated pasta and a date with Tracy Grimshaw? Are you looking forward to Big Brother waaaaay more than you should be? Mon frier, are you merely existing as opposed to living?? Well, 55DSL may have the opportunity you need. The cheeky Italian clothing label has a job opening; "Junior Lucky Bastard" is a kind of globe travelling, cool-hunting sort of role which would require you to "live for 55 seconds a day" (I don't think that means you'll be dead for the other 23hrs, 59mins and 5secs but rather that those 55 seconds will be lived). If you think your life could do with - you know - the travel, the parties, free clothes etc then head here to find out how it could all be yours. Hurry though as the competition closes on June 1 - Kyle and Jackie can wait, this can not.
I do love a Free Kitten
They've been off the radar for a while (only, like, ten years or something) but in 2k8 the raddest, baddest supergroup, Free Kitten, are returning with a new album!!! For those getting misty-eyed with visions of baby cats playing with ribbons and stuff, Free Kitten is the seemingly ageless combination of Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon, Julie Cafritz of Washington noise band, Pussy Galore, and Yoshimi P-We from the Boredoms. Together they make amazing, noisy, cool music and once did a fuzzed up, flannelette swathed cover of the Serge Gainsbourg/France Hall tune Teeny Weeny Boppy. Free Kitten's return to form is called Inherit and will be out onThurston Moore's Estatic Peace label later this year. In the meantime, enjoy the first single, Seasick.
Life lapse photgraphy

When Jack Radcliffe's daughter, Alison, was born he did what any new parent would do - take lots of photos. Radcliffe, however, is a photographer so rather than a collection of blurry holiday/birthday/first-day-of-school snaps his chronicles of his beautiful young Alison are clear, poignant and rich in both look and feeling. It's actually quite amazing to go through the photos from start to finish and watch the growth and various social metamorphoses of a young woman. Kinda puts my parent's shoebox to shame!
If you can't stand the heat....
If you thought Gordon Ramsay's kitchen was hot, check out the collaborative effort of designer Phillippe di Méo et al, soon to be displayed at Paris' L'Elaireur. These guys managed to turn seemingly innocuous kitchen objects such as bottle stoppers into dangerously phallic-like implements that are more suited to the bedroom than to the kitchen. And if the designs themselves weren't enough, each object has a specifically crafted recipe which aimed to mimic it in 'thought and in deed' (says wallpaper.com). Don't miss: The body brush with warm chocolate sauce infused with aphrodisiac herbs. Each item will be accompanied by its recipe and short film counterpart at the exhibition when it's served up in July.
Gem of the highway

This adorable piece of motoring is the limited edition Smart Fortwo car - made all pretty by vibrant Barceleona-based artist, Catalina Estrada. Estrada has worked with Smart Cars on a couple of projects and this time round has decked out the tiny, 8-foot car in her signature florid style as part of the recent Milan Fashion Week. This American-made car (which is about a third the size of a regular car and runs on a lot less petrol) is currently available here in only two styles. Lets hope they make Catalina's model the third soon!
Gorman in ship shop shape

When you think ‘sustainability’ and all of the other catchy little greenie words you don’t exactly think fashion savant now do you? Well, Madame Blanchett and Natalie Portman are not the only ones that can bask in the karmic afterglow and glorious feel of sustainable fashion. While the London Estetica and NY Fashion Week had their very own ‘green’ shows, the mainstream Australian fashion industry has been slightly slower to take-up the baton. Lisa Gorman is one of the exceptions. Tomorrow at RAFW she will launch her Ship Shop – a revamped shipping container that will travel the country, revolutionising the way we shop. In addition to a whole host of creative sustainable tweaks, for the duration of Fashion Week the Ship Shop will run on renewable GreenPower energy supplied by Climate Friendly. Carving out a niche with creatives, Climate Friendly have been working with the likes of Dinosaur Design, Bholu, Bird Textile, Splendour in the Grass, and a host of others to approach sustainability in an innovative and progressive way. Keep an eye out for the Ship Shop coming your way. See Gorman and Climate Friendly for more.
