Things We Learnt at Live Earth

-Wolfmother catch public transport! Andrew Stockdale got a bus to the event.
-When asked if she often plays to a worldwide audience of 2 billion people, Missy Higgins replied, “Oh yeah, probably do it again tomorrow!”
-Al Gore is tops. Gore personally called one of the organizers, Joe Segreto to congratulate him on the success of the show. In a “so Australian” reaction, Segreto replied to Al Gore’s greeting with an incredulous “Bullshit!”
-John Butler had his baby in tow all day, even taking her on stage to join in with the Crowded House finale. While earlier a newly preggers Toni Collette rocked the stage.
-The environment is emotional. Leaving the venue with thousands of people singing “Better Be Home Soon” was more touching than I expected. I'm sure everyone's eyes were just "sweating".

Paris Fashion Bubble

From one fashion week to another, the city of Paris is currently consumed with couture as designers worldwide flock to display their creations amongst glittering fashion shows or at the yearly trade event Tranoi.
My father has just arrived in Paris via London. With the recent news of the Glasgow airport disaster I called him frantically to find out if he and his menswear designer Benny were alright. His response was far from expectant-“yes...why?”
The thought that neither of them knew what had happened did not cross my mind, until I realised they had no clue that the city they were heading back to had “HAZARD” labelled all over it.
I’ve now realised that nothing can break the event that is Paris’ fashion trade. Not even a terrorist attack on their neighbours.
Unless the terrorists are wearing Alaia couture - the Parisians will not flinch.
Paloma Faith Presents…Songs Of Innocence And Experience Part 1

Wow. Paloma Faith has managed to blow me, and my burlesque related doubts, in to the ether. The first of her trilogy of nights at East London's Hoxton Bar blended repressed hedonism with refinement. Her voice has both the emotive tones of Ella Fitzgerald with range of Julie Andrews, whilst the resolutely modern songs unite soul brothers and monocle lovers alike. A good look by any standards.
Rage on Repeat

Having the insipid insomnia disease and being one of the few fortunate ones to reside in our nations illustrious capital of nightlife, Canberra, I am necessarily privy to the relentlessly disappointing nine hours or so of Rage. The egalitarian approach to programming that Rage employed so successfully in my youth has been abandoned, replaced with a repetitive stream of prematurely ejaculated emo and tonsil metal. Each weekend the program introduces a sprinkling of new videos, the remainder is a rehash of the previous week but in a different order. Gone are the days when Rage shaped the musical tastes of a generation. We are now subjected to those wussy little wingers 'My Chemical Romance' on repeat for eternity, perhaps interlaced with a bit of Jared 'pansy ass' Leto poncing about in too much eye shadow. Watching Time Life 128 soft rock hits is more amusing and I can own the entire series for only $29.98!

The Other Side of Paris

Recently I was lucky enough to have a free apartment in the very bourgeois Marais area of Paris. As a fairly impoverished artist from Australia, I’m extremely grateful for such an opportunity, made possible by a government grant. While Paris certainly lives up to it’s glam reputation, it’s been particularly heartbreaking to see the huge number of highly visible homeless people around the city, many living semi-nomadically in tents and with shopping trolleys containing a few possessions. Adding a tarnished dimension to the “city of love”.
