Retro Jumpers: A Vintage Lookbook For Sassy People
Ooooh get it, girl! They’ll all holler as you strut down the street in one of your fetching retro jumpers. You’re a vision. Like something out of a Duran Duran film clip with your oodles of vintage flair. Melbourne-based creative Simone Bennett knows that fashion sense is something you’re born with, but she also feels so strongly about retro jumpers that she simply can’t keep people in the dark any longer.
Compelled by her love of all things kitsch, Bennett, who has a habit of thrift shopping for knick-knacks and sampling obscure snacks from around the world, has compiled an important lookbook that will show you how to rock the vintage sweater like no other. Learn how to turn that op-shop find into a sassy ensemble that says, “I found this outfit in the trash, but I’m making it work with this hat”.
The fashionista had her lightbulb moment presumably while dancing around the house listening to A-ha and The Human League, such is her love of ’80s synth-pop. The outfits in her book show off the WSFM of styles – the ’60s right through to the ’90s – and sit funky patterns alongside colour block brights, woollen knits and the mightiest of shoulder pads for when you want to power dress your way through that glass ceiling.
Retro Jumpers by Simone Bennett is out November 1 through Hardie Grant Books.
