‘Rain’ by Yoshinori Mizutani

A light shower of rain might be treated as an issue of national security in Australia, but over in Japan commuters are channeling their inner Boy Scout, totally unperturbed by a little wet weather. Plenty of photographers have captured the doom and gloom of stormy days, but Yoshinori Mizutani snaps the beauty in the mundanity with his ‘Rain’ series. Faceless, brightly dressed commuters are contrasted by monochromatic pedestrian crossings from an almost birds-eye view of a rain soaked Tokyo. Londoners can peep the collection at Webber Gallery Space May 20 – June 21, but the rest of us will just have to take a look at his work online.
