Video Premiere ✧ MEZKO – ‘Everyone’

Just over a week on from the announcement of their debut EP, scorching hot Sydney two-piece MEZKO have delivered a surreal and gritty new video for their recent single ‘Everyone’. With multi-instrumentalists Kat Harley and Laura Bailey at the helm, MEZKO’s sound meshes elements of krautrock with synthesisers, found sounds, hypnotic vocals and post-punk riffs, punctuating their tracks with catchy left-field beats.
“We wrote ‘Everyone’ about feeling detached and trying to find yourself through other people,” Harley and Bailey explain. “It’s a dark, ‘80s vibe track based on an acid riff, so it was always going to need a suitably dank video. Joel Burrows was the perfect person to create it; he really got what we were trying to achieve. In his words: ‘Everyone is digging their own little hole to nowhere in their own way, it’s my favourite part of humans.’”
While the track copped an initial premiere on triple j’s Home & Hosed, the clip depicts a sea of bodies at a party getting lost in their own hedonistic existence, all while MEZKO’s driving techno beats permeate the scene. It’s the second single to come from the band’s upcoming EP, which is slated for release in February 2017. Ever fans of carving out their own path in life, the record will be released through the band’s own indie label, Dark Matter.
